Why choose an oil painting?
Although oil painting is more intensive and
time-consuming than watercolor or acrylic, it captures a much wider, deeper, and more realistic range of color and value than any other medium. It’s also famously durable, maintaining that luminosity and beauty for years; properly cared for, an oil painting becomes an heirloom that will last for generations.

Before the Wedding

Determine if Rachel has availability on your event date and schedule your live wedding painting reservation with us. A $500 deposit plus any travel fees will be required to reserve your date.

Set up a pre-event consultation with Rachel through your choice of phonecall, text, or email. We will discuss your preferences for the painting, including poses, location, and the day-of timeline.
The Day of the Event

We’ll either hold a dedicated photoshoot before your reception or I’ll capture images of a particular special moment (first look, vows, first dance, etc) to use as reference for your painting.

I’ll paint throughout the event and by the end your likenesses will be captured in great detail and the background rendered in loose, expressive form that will be refined and completed during the studio process afterwards
After the Wedding

Afterwards I’ll take your painting back to my studio, complete your piece with the paint layering techniques that create the distinct realism and luminosity of oil painting, and add in all the little details that really capture the magic of your special day. This can take up to 30 hours of extra work.

Once the painting is completed it needs to dry completely before the final step—a layer of protective varnish—is added. Varnish has been used by oil painters for hundreds of years and not only protects a painting but also brings to life the full intensity of the pigments. Once the varnish is dried the painting will be securely packaged and mailed or hand-delivered to you.
The entire process usually takes 4-6 weeks but can be longer depending on how booked my schedule is. Before you reserve your wedding date we will provide you a personalized turn-around estimate and will clearly communicate if anything happens to disrupt that timeline.
Each painting requires hours of planning, live work, and studio touch ups, and I give my full attention to each one. I can only take on so many events each year and spots fill up fast. A $500 deposit plus any travel fees are required to reserve your date. Check with us to see my availability and reserve my services for your wedding!
Please keep in mind that I will need at least a 3x3 ft square of space at the event in order to set up my easel and workspace.
Travel fees may be required up-front depending on the location of your event. No travel fees will charged for anything within a 100 mile radius/ 2 hour travel distance by car from Orange County CA, and there are also no travel fees for weddings in Tucson, Phoenix, Albuquerque, or Santa Fe.
Events more than a 2 hour drive away will require travel fees. Please tell me about your location plans in our pre-event consultation, and we can create a personalized quote.
